As a Data Scientists we are required to make good charts and are extremely good with numbers but convey the inferences from the data to the clients we don’t need colorful graph and use advance tools and decorate graphs like charismas tree .We can convey our findings from some numbers to and have an influence on the people. And as a Data Science aspirant we need to tell about our project and the work we have done and tell the inferences using data mining techniques to the decision makers so they can apply it on the business .But to convince them that you are correct and your solution is the best we need good knowledge of storytelling. A good data storyteller is as essential to a business as a data scientist. Because a good “Data Storyteller” will ensure that the results from the data is been convey in a understandable format.

A good story grabs your attention evoking an emotional response so that there is an impact to our audience. To be a good storyteller and good means that people can trust on you for this you need to be read, open, honest and ask people about there opinion. In story telling there is a flow. Show people the problem not tell them. In storytelling take a pause let your audience react to what you have convey .Because as you are presenting them and giving your facts there is a mental war going on inside the audience head about how to oppose you or question your thinking so asking about there opinion and telling why you haven’t done that thing or made that decision and justifying with your facts will decrease the mental war which is going inside the audience mind and let your audience draw the conclusion and recommendation you just give them a path in which you want them to go so they will feel emotionally attached that you value there opinion and so people can remember you and your story.

Robert McKee is an award‐winning writer and director .In an interview for Harvard Business Review, he discusses how to persuade through storytelling and tell how storytelling can be benefit in a business .

Think about your favorite story and think that if that story is just conveyed in a bullet point and there is just facts but then it became so boring. So to telling a story will be an good as people will listen to you and a good story has context, challenge, Result. We need to build up a main character , a plot and a climax scene .But this requires creativity.

In story there is a format and you need to take care of that when you are giving your presentation.

  1. Find a subject as I assume that you are beginner in data science field then you we take a dataset so subject will be the subject of dataset.
  2. Do not ramble
  3. Keep it simple and don’t became Shakespeare when telling about the story.
  4. Sound like yourself.
  5. Give time for the audience to digest what you are saying.

Taking example that you are the student and have to present the your data science project then suppose you have taken a large and dataset and you have to apply supervised or unsupervised learning . Now tell your audience about the data. Suppose it is about life expectancy then tell about the topic introduce the topic and tell why have you chosen that topic .Invest some time on the data using the data tell about the problem you faced on the dataset you have chosen and how you have tackled them and cleaned the data so that you can apply the models .This will make a flow .If you are using graphs make them simple and easy to understand .Tell them why have you chosen that model and what is the advantage over other other. Do not impose the decision on them only guide them with your facts then when you will tell your conclusion it will also be the same conclusion that your audience is thinking so there will be no argument.

In the end Stories have the power of captivating us and sticking with us in ways that facts alone cannot. They lend structure. When we construct stories, we should do so with a beginning (plot), middle (twists), and end (call to action). Conflict and tension are key to grabbing and maintaining your audience’s attention.

So, the information we want to show to our audience for this don’t tell just the fact and stats and the conclusion it is very boring ,unattractive .But by making a story with data and telling the audience then people would listen to you.
